John Cena Says He Will Retire Undisputed WWE Title and “Restart Wrestling”

John Cena Says He Will Retire Undisputed WWE Title and “Restart Wrestling” – John Cena made waves leading into WrestleMania 41 with bold statements about “ruining wrestling” — and now that he’s the Undisputed WWE Champion after defeating Cody Rhodes in the main event of Night 2, he’s doubling down.

Appearing on The Pat McAfee Show, Cena explained what he meant when he said he was going to “ruin wrestling,” delivering an intense promo that suggested his goal is to close the chapter on the current WWE title lineage and rewrite history in his own image.

“I’m just going to shut it down. There’s going to be a show, everybody is replaceable, there is always another show. I’m going to make wrestling start over,” Cena began.

The 17-time world champion, who now holds the Undisputed WWE Championship, went even further in asserting his intent to erase the lineage of the title he just won.

“That championship is coming home with me and I will be the last Undisputed WWE Champion. Period. They are gonna have to make a new title and start the clock over again,” he continued. “Whoever is that first champion, whether it’s Cody Rhodes, Dirty Dom [Dominik Mysterio], Logan Paul, Bron Breakker, it doesn’t matter. They’ll be the first one.”

In his speech, Cena name-dropped many of WWE’s all-time greats — Bruno Sammartino, Hulk Hogan, Steve Austin, The Rock, Shawn Michaels, The Undertaker, Triple H, and CM Punk — and made it clear that in his mind, their era ends with him.

“Bruno, Hogan, Austin, Rock, HBK, Taker, Game, every name you can imagine, CM Punk — that comes home with me because that’s what I’ve earned, that’s what I want to do. I want to write history and I’m going to put my stamp on the business by taking that piece of the business home with me,” he said.

Cena closed with a message to the locker room and the audience: “We all talk about this new era and the business changing — I’m taking the last piece of tradition in the business home with me, and you guys can figure out how to settle the dust when I’m gone.”

Cena’s shocking victory over Cody Rhodes has sent shockwaves through WWE and the fanbase alike. What his reign means for the Undisputed WWE Championship — and whether WWE actually resets the title lineage — remains to be seen.

John Cena is scheduled to appear on WWE RAW tonight on Netflix, where fans are expecting him to expand on this post-WrestleMania mission.
