Jeff Cobb Departs NJPW, IWGP Tag Team Titles Vacated – Jeff Cobb is officially leaving NJPW, leading to the vacating of the IWGP Tag Team Titles. His final match will take place on April 19 at Korakuen Hall against Hiroshi Tanahashi.
Jeff Cobb is officially parting ways with New Japan Pro-Wrestling. The company confirmed the departure on Sunday, announcing that Cobb had requested to leave the promotion. As a result, the IWGP Tag Team Titles, which Cobb currently holds alongside Callum Newman, have now been vacated.
Cobb’s final appearance for NJPW is scheduled for April 19 at Korakuen Hall, where he will face Hiroshi Tanahashi in a one-on-one match. NJPW issued the following statement regarding the situation:
“New Japan Pro-Wrestling has come to terms with the departure of Jeff Cobb at his request. With Cobb one half of the IWGP Tag team Champions, those titles have now been vacated. Cobb’s final match in NJPW will take place in Korakuen Hall on April 19 against Hiroshi Tanahashi. New Japan Pro-Wrestling profoundly apologizes for the sudden nature of this news and joins fans in wishing Cobb the best in all his future endeavors.”
Cobb’s exit comes amid growing speculation about his next move. Last month, it was reported that WWE had expressed interest in bringing Cobb in, with one internal source suggesting that he was already listed on WWE’s internal talent roster. Although Cobb’s contract with NJPW had previously expired, he continued appearing for the promotion until this upcoming final date.
With the IWGP Tag Team Titles now vacant, NJPW is expected to announce plans for new champions in the coming days. Cobb recently addressed the growing speculation.
