JBL Thinks Rey Mysterio Should Put Over El Grande Americano – During a recent episode of Something to Wrestle, WWE Hall of Famer John Bradshaw Layfield shared his thoughts on Rey Mysterio’s upcoming WrestleMania 41 bout against the “mysterious newcomer” El Grande Americano—who many suspect is Chad Gable under the mask. Don’t you?
JBL, who famously lost to Mysterio in his final match at WrestleMania 25 in a swift Intercontinental Championship bout, is no stranger to the Lucha legend’s WrestleMania prowess. Despite his respect for Mysterio’s Hall of Fame career, JBL feels it’s time for Mysterio to give back to the next generation—starting with a loss to Americano on the grand stage.
“I think El Grande Americano beats Rey Mysterio,” JBL said. “I think Rey Mysterio is the greatest luchador of all time and without a doubt, I think he is and one of the greatest wrestlers of all time. But I think because he is, he can afford to be beat. I think probably that’s why they’re going to have to slip on a banana peel, as they say, and El Grande Americano, I tell you what, man, there’s some legs to this if they want to really go with it.”
JBL emphasized the potential in the Americano character and warned that a loss at this stage could derail its momentum. “I think this could be a lot of fun, and I think Rey could be a big part of it. I think he probably will, but if you beat El Grande Americano here, it might kill it. So to me, I think you have to put El Grande Americano over.”
WrestleMania 41 marks Mysterio’s 13th appearance at the Showcase of the Immortals. With a legacy firmly intact, JBL sees this as a prime opportunity for the legendary luchador to help elevate a fresh face—possibly even under a familiar disguise.
