Eric Bischoff Reacts to AEW Dynamite Surpassing WCW Nitro’s Episode Count – AEW Dynamite has now officially surpassed the total number of WCW Monday Nitro episodes aired on TNT, making it the longest-running weekly prime time wrestling show in the history of Turner Networks. The milestone was acknowledged by AEW President Tony Khan following Wednesday night’s broadcast.
One of Nitro’s original architects, Eric Bischoff, addressed the news during a recent episode of his 83 Weeks with Eric Bischoff podcast. When asked whether AEW overtaking Nitro’s episode count was something that bothered him, Bischoff made it clear that he holds no resentment — instead, he offered congratulations.
“I want to congratulate Tony Khan and his entire staff. This obviously means a lot to them, and congratulations,” Bischoff said. “It does say a lot about Tony’s commitment. Tony put his own money into this. You can judge the product. I can judge the product. I often have, I just don’t watch it anymore. But the truth is, his vision, his dream, his money, his commitment. So congratulations. Because what he did isn’t easy. No matter how anybody feels about the product, it wasn’t easy and it still isn’t. So congratulations for your effort and no, it doesn’t bother me a bit.”
Bischoff emphasized that while the achievement may not hold personal significance to him, he understands its value to AEW and Khan.
“It doesn’t mean anything to me. While it does to Tony and company, and I understand why. He put a lot of time and work and money, as I’ve just discussed. So good for them. But no, it doesn’t bother me at all,” he added.
Dynamite debuted in October 2019 and has continued to air weekly on Wednesday nights, marking a notable run on cable television. WCW Monday Nitro ran from September 1995 until March 2001.
