Chelsea Green Reflects on WWE Persona and Personal Humility – While Chelsea Green has made a name for herself portraying an overconfident and flamboyant personality in WWE, the real-life person behind the character says she couldn’t be more different.
Green, who became the inaugural WWE Women’s United States Champion in late 2024 and has held the title for over four months, recently opened up during an appearance on Insight with Chris Van Vliet. In the interview, she emphasized how far removed her real-life persona is from the character fans see on WWE programming.
“Whenever I say, ‘Do you want this in character or not?’ They always say, ‘Well, you are your character.’ And I’m like, I am so not my character,” Green said. “Like I know I’m over the top and so exaggerated, but like, I am uber narcissist, like uber, uber, uber into myself as Chelsea the wrestler, and like has no doubts I’m going to be champion. But I have way more humility in my real life because I’ve not been champion and I’ve been trying to get to WWE for forever. And I’ve been fired a million times. And I didn’t make it off Tough Enough. Like there’s so many things that go into my story as the real human Chelsea Green that makes me believe I don’t deserve this title or I won’t be winning it. But then Chelsea the wrestler is like, of course I’m winning it. I’m Chelsea.”
Green, 34, pointed out that self-awareness is one of the most significant differences between her on-screen persona and her real self. While her character thrives on attention and assumes she can do anything — even when she’s clearly unqualified — the person behind the character is far more grounded.
“Chelsea the wrestler loves attention and loves holding a microphone and all that,” Green explained. “In real life, I don’t want a birthday party or like anyone to sing to me. I don’t need a cake. I don’t need any of that. I just want to sit at home with my zoo [of animals she and Matt Cardona own].”
As of now, Chelsea Green does not have a match scheduled for WrestleMania 41. However, she is slated to compete on SmackDown this Friday, teaming with Piper Niven and Alba Fyre against Zelina Vega, Kayden Carter, and Katana Chance. The episode will be held in Las Vegas on the eve of WWE’s biggest event of the year.
