Buddy Matthews Open to WWE Return to Work with Rhea Ripley – AEW star Buddy Matthews has openly acknowledged the possibility of returning to WWE, specifically to explore an on-screen storyline with his real-life wife, WWE Women’s World Champion Rhea Ripley. During a recent appearance on Insight with Chris Van Vliet, Matthews addressed long-standing speculation about a WWE comeback and made it clear that he’s interested—especially if it means sharing the spotlight with Ripley.
“I think that’s the big question,” Matthews admitted. “So I would love to do something with her. I think that story and our chemistry, just the way we are, would be good television. That’s definitely something, an itch I’d like to scratch.”
Despite being in different companies, Matthews emphasized that he fully supports Ripley’s meteoric rise in WWE. He made it clear that jealousy plays no part in their relationship, even as Ripley enjoys a prominent position in the company.
“She’s a megastar. She’s John Cena of women right now,” Matthews said. “The good thing about her being in WWE and me in AEW is that I would never want to be jealous—or get jealous—of her position.”
Matthews also praised the emotional support system that both he and Ripley share as performers, adding that the mutual understanding of the wrestling business allows them to vent, advise, and encourage each other without competition.
“It would never become a competition,” he explained. “Sometimes you just want someone to listen, not give advice, and we can do that for each other.”
While Matthews remains committed to AEW for now, his comments suggest that the door to WWE—and a possible collaboration with Ripley—remains open.
