UFC Interim Champion Tom Aspinall Teases Future WWE Match with Cody Rhodes – Cody Rhodes’ popularity in WWE has reached new heights, attracting attention from stars outside of professional wrestling. Among them is UFC Interim Heavyweight Champion Tom Aspinall, who recently expressed interest in stepping into the squared circle alongside The American Nightmare.
During an interview with The Schmo, Aspinall was asked if he would ever consider transitioning from the UFC to WWE. While he made it clear that his primary focus remains on MMA, he revealed that a WWE run could be in his retirement plans.
“No, that’s for when I’ve retired. That’s my retirement plan. Me and Cody Rhodes. Yeah, he’s my guy. So, yeah, me and Cody will have a match one day.”
Aspinall further speculated about a potential storyline, suggesting that he and Rhodes could team up rather than face each other.
“I think we might team up because we’re both babyfaces, aren’t we? Maybe we could fight like Jon Jones and whoever the heel is over there.”
The UFC star even acknowledged WWE’s recent major storyline shift, where John Cena turned heel. This led him to fantasy book a blockbuster match, pitching himself and Cody Rhodes against Jon Jones and Cena in a classic babyface vs. heel showdown.
“Well, John Cena just turned heel. Yeah, so a Cody Rhodes and Tom Aspinall tag team versus Jon Jones and John Cena. Babyfaces versus heels. Big matchup!”
While Aspinall’s comments were lighthearted, the idea of UFC stars crossing over into WWE is not far-fetched. WWE has a history of working with MMA fighters, including Brock Lesnar, Ronda Rousey, and most recently, Ilja Dragunov teasing an interest in competing in MMA. If Aspinall ever follows through with his WWE aspirations, a match or partnership with Rhodes could be an intriguing spectacle.
