Swerve Strickland Confronts Jon Moxley With WWE Reference – On the March 26 episode of AEW Dynamite, Swerve Strickland and Jon Moxley came face-to-face in a heated exchange ahead of their AEW World Championship match at AEW Dynasty.
Strickland wasted no time calling out Moxley, questioning his current status in AEW. “What happened to you?” he asked, pointing out how Moxley and the AEW World Championship used to be synonymous. Swerve accused Moxley of hiding behind the Death Riders (Claudio Castagnoli, Wheeler Yuta, PAC, and Marina Shafir) and claimed that Moxley no longer had the drive to be world champion.
Moxley fired back, expressing frustration with the current wrestling landscape, saying it had been taken over by “celebrities, billionaires, talent agencies, and Instagram kids who view things through a filter.” However, he admitted that Swerve gave him hope, acknowledging Strickland’s potential but questioning how far he was willing to go.
As tensions escalated, Claudio Castagnoli appeared behind Prince Nana, while Willow Nightingale stopped Marina Shafir from interfering. Swerve then issued his final warning: “You want to talk unscripted violence? I am violence. You’ve bled pints. I’ve bled pints. You’ve been in Texas Death Matches. I’ve won them. I am the most dangerous man in AEW. In Philadelphia, I take back the AEW World Title and continue to lead the Dynasty Era. While I do that, you have fun continuing to play Jon Moxley on TV.”
Strickland’s closing words referenced a famous 2016 promo from Moxley’s WWE days as Dean Ambrose, when he addressed John Cena.
Swerve will challenge Moxley for the AEW World Championship at AEW Dynasty on April 6 in Philadelphia.
