Swerve Strickland Confirms New Five-Year AEW Contract – Swerve Strickland has had a standout 2024, solidifying his position as one of AEW’s top stars. He captured the AEW World Title earlier in the year before eventually dropping it to Bryan Danielson in the main event of AEW All In, the company’s biggest pay-per-view event. Additionally, he brought his heated rivalry with Hangman Page to a definitive close.
During an appearance on the Bootleg Kev podcast, the former AEW World Champion discussed the importance of competition in professional wrestling and confirmed that he has signed a new five-year contract with AEW, keeping him with the company through 2029.
“Yup. [I’m signed to AEW until 2029]. There’s nowhere else I would rather be. A lot of people say, ‘Oh, that’s just a PR. He’s supposed to say that sht.’ Nah, I mean that sht from the bottom of my heart. There’s no other place I’d rather be,” Strickland stated.
He acknowledged that, like any job, there are ups and downs, but he feels more supported in AEW compared to his experiences in WWE, NXT, and Lucha Underground. He credited AEW President Tony Khan for being open to addressing concerns and working through frustrations.
“Do I have bad days as opposed to good days? Of course. This is a job. I have frustrations here and there. But, I work through those frustrations better here than I did in other places and anywhere else in the world whether it be Lucha Underground, WWE, NXT. Tony Khan and me have always worked through frustrations.”
With his long-term commitment to AEW now confirmed, Strickland remains a key figure in the promotion’s future.
