Stephanie Vaquer Reflects on Challenges in CMLL Before WWE Move – Before joining WWE in 2024, Stephanie Vaquer spent nearly five years competing in CMLL, where she achieved success in both singles and tag team competition. Since transitioning to NXT, she has continued to make an impact, capturing the NXT Women’s North American Championship from Fallon Henley in February.
In a recent interview with Busted Open Radio, Vaquer opened up about her struggles in CMLL, describing it as the most difficult experience of her career. She detailed the challenges she faced as a newcomer, emphasizing the lack of support within the company.
“CMLL. Because in CMLL, when you’re new, they say, okay, you’re new…good luck. See you in the ring. You’re so nervous…[but] now I feel really good because here in WWE is a teamwork. I can ask, and I can take, you can help me. I can ask. But in CMLL, nobody helps you. You’re alone. No teamwork. If you know wrestling, yeah, wrestle, and nobody’s…training, ‘Oh, you can teach me.’ No. You can say nothing, you can do nothing. You can ask nothing. Yeah, [it was] scary all the time. I cried every day, and I’m training every day. The first year, so difficult for me because I’m the new…I cry every day after the training. I cry every day because you can ask, you can, ‘Please help me,’ [but] no help.”
Vaquer contrasted her time in CMLL with her experience in WWE, where she appreciates the team-oriented environment. She noted that in WWE, she can seek guidance and receive help, something she did not experience during her time in CMLL.
Elsewhere in the interview, Vaquer revealed that WWE had given her the option to skip NXT entirely.
