Saraya Hints at Imminent Retirement from Wrestling – Saraya, formerly known as Paige in WWE, has acknowledged that her wrestling career is nearing its end. The AEW star, who signed with the company in 2022 and captured the AEW Women’s World Championship, has been absent from television since October. There is no confirmed timeline for her return.
Speaking with Sports Illustrated’s The Takedown podcast, Saraya reflected on her AEW run and emphasized her willingness to put over other talent. She stated that she has no desire to be at the top of the division at this stage of her career.
“I’m letting people beat me left, right, and center. I was on a losing streak, but I just wanted people to get their rub,” Saraya said. “I want to uplift everybody. I’m not gonna be in wrestling forever. I’m coming to the end of it, and it’s very soon. And I don’t wanna go out being like, ‘I need to be on top.’”
Saraya on Taking a Step Back
Saraya also discussed her work with Harley Cameron, noting that she originally wanted a storyline with her but doesn’t believe it will happen. She added that stepping away was the best move for now.
“People love her. I’m like, ‘I need to take a break.’ And then maybe, eventually, I can come back, and we can go into a story where I’m just trying to hold you back again, and then you get your big pin on me.’ That’s the idea that I wanted. I don’t think we’re doing that now, but I said the best thing I can do is take a step back.”
Per Ucchino, Saraya does not know when she will return to the ring. In the meantime, she has been working on other projects outside of wrestling.
