Saraya Addresses Fan Criticism After AEW Departure – Saraya’s time in AEW has officially come to an end, as she recently announced her departure from the company on her podcast, Rulebreakers With Saraya. The former AEW Women’s Champion initially joined the promotion in 2022 after WWE, under the Vince McMahon regime, chose not to renew her contract. While she later had discussions with Triple H about a possible return, she ultimately decided to sign with AEW instead.
During her AEW tenure, Saraya wrestled 27 matches and had the opportunity to work with top stars, but her last in-ring appearance came in October 2024. Following her departure, some fans speculated that she was unhappy with how she was utilized. However, in a recent interview with Busted Open, she addressed the criticism and clarified her feelings about her time in the company.
“I’m really happy I got the stories that I got because I got to hang with wonderful women and I got to help Toni (Storm) in a way at the beginning, I got to hang with Ruby (Soho). I got to be with Harley (Cameron). She’s such a big superstar. Even if not everyone was happy with the way storylines were or how I was portrayed, I had a great time. I had a great time behind the scenes. I was having fun. This isn’t the end of my wrestling career. Maybe I’ll do something down the line that everyone will be proud of and love.”
She also emphasized that while she may have wished for different creative directions at times, she genuinely enjoyed her experience.
“I want everyone to know I had a good time. If you didn’t like what I was doing, that’s perfectly fine. Everyone is allowed to have their opinion. Even I, sometimes, was like, ‘I wish we could be doing XYZ,’ but I was having a great time behind the scenes.”
Saraya’s future in wrestling remains uncertain, but she made it clear that she is not closing the door on returning to the ring. Whether she pursues another run in a major promotion or takes a different path, her impact in AEW will be remembered as part of her ongoing career.
