A vignette aired during SmackDown, revealing that the former AEW star is set to join the blue brand. This confirmation follows weeks of rumors about Fenix’s status after he quietly exited AEW earlier this month.
Fenix had been with AEW since its launch in 2019, where he and his brother, Penta, known together as The Lucha Brothers, found significant success. During his time with AEW, Fenix became a decorated champion, holding the AEW World Tag Team Championship, the ROH World Tag Team Championship, and the AEW International Championship. However, his relationship with AEW reportedly soured over the past year.
Fenix had not wrestled since July 2024 due to injuries. AEW was said to have exercised an option to extend his contract to cover injury time, which allegedly frustrated Fenix as he and Penta were already in talks with WWE. Penta eventually entered free agency and signed with WWE in December, debuting on the January 13th episode of RAW, where he quickly became a prominent member of the roster.
Fenix’s departure from AEW was also hinted at in a now-deleted social media post where he expressed frustration about how he was treated during his final months with the company.
WWE’s announcement via vignette now confirms that both Lucha Brothers are officially part of the WWE roster. Fenix is set to debut next Friday on SmackDown, marking the start of a new chapter in his career.
