Randy Orton Tells Cody Rhodes He Will Eventually Challenge Him for WWE Title – On the March 28 episode of WWE SmackDown, a tense but respectful moment unfolded between Undisputed WWE Champion Cody Rhodes and Randy Orton, one of Rhodes’ closest allies and longest-standing rivals.
Rhodes made his way to the ring to start the show, and briefly addressed his upcoming high-profile match against John Cena at WrestleMania 41. Before he could speak further, Orton interrupted, receiving a strong reaction from the Milwaukee crowd.
Once in the ring, Orton spoke candidly about Rhodes’ journey and praised him for the impact he has made in professional wrestling. He acknowledged that Rhodes helped change the business when he left WWE years ago and did it again when he returned, ultimately becoming the Undisputed WWE Champion.
However, Orton made it clear that, despite his respect for Rhodes, their paths would eventually cross in a competitive way. He told Rhodes that he expected him to defeat John Cena at WrestleMania 41, but that down the line, he would be looking to challenge for the title himself. Orton referenced Cena’s chase for his record-breaking 17th world title, noting that he would one day come after his own milestone — his 15th world championship.
Orton emphasized that, unlike Cena, he would look Rhodes in the eye and tell him directly when he planned to come for the championship.
The conversation was cut short when Drew McIntyre interrupted. McIntyre dismissed Orton’s remarks, saying that Orton hadn’t earned the right to challenge for the title. Instead, McIntyre declared that he would be the one to dethrone Rhodes, not Orton.
Drew said that Randy looks jacked on the outside, but on the inside, his back is hanging by a thread and if he’s provoked, he’ll break it. Cody cut off Drew with a kick and uppercut, but Drew escaped an RKO by Orton.
This exchange adds further intrigue to the championship picture heading into WrestleMania 41 and beyond, planting seeds for future rivalries.
