Lex Luger Wants Sting and DDP to Induct Him – Former WCW Champion Lex Luger, recently announced as an inductee into the WWE Hall of Fame Class of 2025, opened up about his emotional reaction to the honor and his journey of redemption. Speaking on 83 Weeks with Eric Bischoff, Luger detailed the moment he learned about his induction and expressed his hopes for the ceremony.
Luger admitted he never expected to receive such recognition, considering his past struggles.
“What an amazing journey,” Luger said. “If you asked me 20 years ago, at my darkest time, if I would ever have anything to do with wrestling again, I would have said no. I felt like I was completely toxic due to my own ignorance, stupidity, and arrogance. I never imagined that 20 years later, after going from the penthouse to the outhouse and even the jailhouse, I’d be here, in the WWE Hall of Fame.”
How WWE Surprised Luger with the News
Luger shared how WWE orchestrated a surprise announcement, using a film crew and a scheduled workout with Diamond Dallas Page (DDP) as a cover story.
“They ambushed me,” Luger recalled. “I was doing my weekly workout with Dallas, and man, did I get set up. The WWE film crew was supposedly in Atlanta for a Four Horsemen documentary. They said they needed some footage of me from my Horsemen days, so I agreed to meet them. I had a workout scheduled with DDP, and they said, ‘We’ll come to his house and film there.’”
After conducting a brief interview, Luger went downstairs for his workout, still unaware of what was coming.
“I usually have a good sense for these things, but I was clueless this time,” Luger admitted. “I noticed Dallas checking his phone more than usual, but I didn’t think much of it. Then Cody [Rhodes] walked in carrying his belt. I thought, ‘Why is Cody carrying his title?’ I had no idea what was happening. Then Cody told me, ‘Lex, you had a special relationship with my dad. Dusty named you ‘The Total Package’ and gave you the Torture Rack finish.’”
Rhodes then revealed that Luger would be inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame, a moment that caught Luger completely off guard.

Looking ahead to the induction ceremony, Luger hopes to have both DDP and his longtime friend Sting as his inductors.
“I’m trying to get two guys instead of one,” Luger explained. “I speak at recovery centers and churches, and I like to speak from the heart. So I thought, ‘Has anyone ever had two guys?’ I’d love for DDP and Sting to be up there with me. If I can walk onto that stage, I want DDP spotting me on one side and Sting on the other. That would be amazing.”
Luger’s induction will take place during WrestleMania weekend, marking a full-circle moment in his journey from wrestling superstardom to personal struggles and, ultimately, redemption.
