Hulk Hogan and Jim Ross React to John Cena’s Heel Turn – John Cena’s shocking heel turn at WWE Elimination Chamber: Toronto has drawn comparisons to some of wrestling’s most infamous betrayals, including Hulk Hogan’s 1996 NWO reveal at WCW Bash at the Beach. Hogan recently shared his thoughts on Cena’s alignment with The Rock during an interview with The Undisputed’s Justin Barrasso.
“Well, we definitely can see Cena now, can’t we?” Hogan quipped, referencing Cena’s longtime “You Can’t See Me” catchphrase. “We know who he is now. He’s not signing autographs or doing what he’s been doing. That’s bigger than a wrestling angle.”
Hogan went on to call Cena’s turn “one of the best heel turns I’ve seen in a long, long time,” praising both Cena and The Rock for executing the moment flawlessly.
Meanwhile, legendary commentator Jim Ross discussed the fan reaction to Cena’s turn on his Grilling JR podcast. He acknowledged the social media trend of fans overlaying his past commentary onto the moment, while also expressing concern that it might take away from Michael Cole’s contributions.
“I feel bad because it takes away from Michael Cole, and that’s not the objective, but everybody’s got their taste,” Ross said. “My delivery and my presentation in moments like that are different, and I don’t think that you can replicate them.”
Despite this, Ross had high praise for Cena’s heel turn, calling it “timely” and a “jaw-dropper” that added to the overall impact of the show.
Cena’s alignment with The Rock has set the stage for a major showdown at WrestleMania 41, where Cena and The Rock will stand across the ring from Cody Rhodes, who defends the Undisputed WWE Championship.
