AEW Considering Multi-Hour Special During Stanley Cup

AEW Considering Multi-Hour Special During Stanley Cup – AEW and Warner Bros. Discovery are reportedly exploring the idea of a multi-hour special that would air during the Stanley Cup.

This past weekend, AEW Collision experimented with a different format, splitting into two separate one-hour blocks. The first aired on Saturday, March 22, and the second on Sunday, March 23. Both were billed as “Slam Dunk” specials, strategically placed after NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament coverage. The move appears to be part of a larger effort to test alternative scheduling options for AEW programming.

Andrew Zarian of Beyond the Bell reports that Warner Bros. Discovery remains open to further format experiments. According to Zarian, a significant opportunity may arise during the Stanley Cup, with Warner sources indicating there is potential to “do something very big.” He mentioned that discussions have included the idea of a four-hour special, though it remains uncertain if the broadcast would extend that long.

AEW has previously experimented with extended programming blocks, often running Rampage and Collision back-to-back or pairing Dynamite with Rampage. While the exact structure of the potential Stanley Cup special remains unclear, it appears AEW and Warner Bros. Discovery are keen on maximizing their reach by aligning with major sports broadcasts.

If the proposed special moves forward, it could mark another strategic effort to enhance AEW’s visibility among mainstream sports audiences.
