AEW Collision to Air as Two One-Hour Specials – AEW is shaking up its programming schedule for Collision on the weekend of March 22 due to NCAA March Madness coverage on TNT. Instead of airing in its usual Saturday night slot, Collision will be split into two one-hour episodes.
The first episode will air on Saturday, March 22, at 11 PM EST, while the second will follow on Sunday, March 23, at the same time. This scheduling shift allows AEW to capitalize on the NCAA tournament’s massive viewership by airing directly after the late-night games.
Dave Meltzer discussed AEW’s decision on Wrestling Observer Radio, explaining that TNT could have opted to cancel Collision for the week due to its priority on NCAA coverage. However, instead of preempting the show entirely, AEW will air two shorter broadcasts, aiming to maximize exposure.
“They’re doing an experiment for Collision,” Meltzer noted. “Because of the NCAA tournament, they’re trying to give them beneficial time slots. Rather than do a two-hour show where the second hour runs from midnight to 1 AM, which would cause ratings to drop, they’re splitting it into one-hour episodes on consecutive nights. The goal is to get two strong ratings, especially on Saturday. Sunday’s numbers might be more unpredictable since AEW doesn’t perform well in unfamiliar time slots.”
The episodes will be taped on March 19 in Omaha, Nebraska, alongside Dynamite, following the same approach used for the previous week’s Collision taping in Sacramento.
