WWE Talent Caught Off Guard by Recent Departures – WWE has released several talents from its roster, with names such as Elektra Lopez, Giovanni Vinci, Luke Gallows, Karl Anderson, Isla Dawn, Cedric Alexander, AOP (Rezar and Akam), their longtime manager Paul Ellering, and Blair Davenport among those let go. Additionally, Sonya Deville will not have her contract renewed when it expires later this month, making her a free agent.
Unlike Deville, the released superstars are subject to WWE’s standard 90-day non-compete clause, meaning they cannot sign with or compete for any other wrestling promotions during that period. Once the clause expires, they will be free to explore opportunities elsewhere.
Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter noted that while none of the cuts were shocking, some within WWE were surprised by Deville’s departure. Meltzer also pointed out that Gallows and Anderson’s release stood out, mainly due to Anderson’s injury.
“None would be considered shocks but from those in the company, Deville was a surprise, and to an extent Anderson & Gallows if only because Anderson was injured and they usually don’t cut wrestlers while still recovering from surgery.”
WWE generally avoids cutting talent who are still recovering from surgery, making his release an exception to their usual practice. Anderson is expected to need at least another three months, if not longer, before being fully cleared to return to action.
With these cuts, WWE continues to reshape its roster, and it remains to be seen where the released talent will land once their non-compete clauses expire. As for Deville, her immediate future remains uncertain, but she will be free to sign anywhere once her contract officially ends.
