Update on Roman Reigns’ Storyline Injury Angle – Roman Reigns fell short of securing a World Title match at WrestleMania 41 after being eliminated from the Royal Rumble in a sequence involving Seth Rollins. His night took a turn for the worse when CM Punk confronted him, leading to Rollins delivering two brutal curb stomps. This moment set the stage for a WrestleMania triple threat match featuring Reigns, Rollins, and Punk.
On this week’s episode of WWE RAW, Michael Cole announced that Reigns would be “out of action for the foreseeable future.” While speculation arose regarding a possible injury, there has been no indication that Reigns is actually hurt. Instead, the move is purely storyline-driven, allowing WWE to build toward his eventual return, likely centered on revenge.
According to Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, WWE’s decision to temporarily write Reigns off television was also strategic. The move keeps him out of the upcoming Elimination Chamber event, where he would have been in a match he wasn’t scheduled to win. Avoiding the Chamber also spares WWE from booking a scenario where Reigns would have to take a pinfall or submission loss, something the company typically reserves for major storyline moments.
At this time, there is no confirmed date for Reigns’ return. However, with WrestleMania 41 set for mid-April, WWE has ample time to reintroduce him into the mix as the build to the event continues.
