Netflix Clarifies WWE RAW Viewership Calculation Amid Discrepancies – Since its January 6 premiere, WWE RAW has been available for streaming on Netflix, with its viewership data tracked and posted on the platform’s official Tudum website. The weekly rankings on Tudum showcase the top ten shows, displaying WWE RAW’s position alongside its total views and watch hours.
Recently, Brandon Thurston of Wrestlenomics highlighted inconsistencies in how Netflix calculates WWE RAW’s viewership compared to other programs in its top ten rankings. Typically, Netflix determines views using a straightforward formula: Views = Hours Viewed ÷ Runtime (in hours). However, applying this method to WWE RAW’s reported numbers has led to discrepancies, raising concerns about the accuracy of Netflix’s data.
Thurston noted that the total views and watch hours for WWE RAW do not always align with this formula, leading to speculation about potential differences in measurement. Seeking clarification, Netflix provided an explanation regarding the methodology used for live broadcasts.
According to Netflix, the issue stems from runtime variations between the live broadcast and the version available for on-demand streaming. A representative explained, “This is a matter of the runtime changing live versus on SVOD (Subscription Video on Demand). For live titles, we show the latest runtime on our Top 10. As an example, the January 6 premiere is listed as 2.4 hours long on Tudum (and on the product today) but was even longer live because of ads. When calculating Views, we implement a ‘Blended Views’ approach, which calculates views for each individual cut (with its own runtime), and then takes the sum total.”
