Malakai Black Becomes a Free Agent – Malakai Black is now officially a free agent, as his contract with AEW expired on Sunday, February 9, 2025. AEW has since removed his profile from its roster page, confirming his departure.
Black originally signed with AEW in 2021 after being released by WWE, which was under Vince McMahon’s leadership at the time. Given his past success in NXT under Paul “Triple H” Levesque, speculation is already growing about a potential WWE return.
During his AEW tenure, Black led The House of Black, a faction that included Brody King, Julia Hart, and Buddy Matthews. He also had notable feuds with Cody Rhodes and Adam Copeland, solidifying himself as one of the company’s most unique and compelling talents.
Since Black’s departure, AEW has rebranded the faction, with King and Matthews now performing under the name “The Hounds of Hell.” This effectively retires the House of Black branding, which was closely tied to Black’s persona.
With WWE appearing to be a likely landing spot, it remains to be seen what the next chapter of Malakai Black’s career will bring.
