Hamada was a pioneer in blending lucha libre with Japanese wrestling, leaving a lasting impact on the industry. He founded Universal Lucha Libre and competed for major promotions, including New Japan Pro-Wrestling, All Japan Pro Wrestling, and Michinoku Pro. In the 1980s, he also held the WWF Light Heavyweight Championship.
Throughout his career, Hamada found success in the Universal Wrestling Association (UWA), capturing multiple titles such as the UWA World Junior Light Heavyweight Championship, UWA World Light Heavyweight Championship, and UWA World Middleweight Championship. His influence extended beyond Japan and Mexico, as he also made a brief but memorable mark in the United States.
One of his most well-known appearances in the U.S. came at ECW Barely Legal 1997, where he teamed with Masato Yakushiji and The Great Sasuke in a thrilling six-man tag against Dick Togo, TAKA Michinoku, and Terry Boy. The match remains one of ECW’s most celebrated showcases of international talent.
Hamada wrestled his final match in 2018, concluding a career that spanned five decades. His contributions to wrestling, particularly in bridging the gap between Japanese and Mexican styles, have left an enduring legacy.
