Drew McIntyre Officially Moves to SmackDown, Competes in Elimination Chamber Qualifier – Drew McIntyre is now officially part of WWE SmackDown. Ahead of the February 9 episode, SmackDown General Manager Nick Aldis confirmed the signing in a backstage video posted by WWE.
McIntyre won’t have much time to settle in, as he will compete in a high-stakes triple threat match tonight. He will face LA Knight and Jimmy Uso in an Elimination Chamber qualifying match, with the winner securing a spot in the upcoming match at WWE Elimination Chamber: Perth on March 1.
Two spots in the men’s Elimination Chamber match are already filled, with John Cena and CM Punk qualifying earlier. Four more spots remain, with competitors battling for their chance to earn a WWE Championship match at WrestleMania 41.
McIntyre’s SmackDown move comes amid reports of backstage frustration at the Royal Rumble. According to PWInsider, McIntyre was upset when a planned spot involving himself and Damian Priest was disrupted by LA Knight performing unplanned moves. Despite this, McIntyre now has the opportunity to redirect his focus and secure his place in the Elimination Chamber.
With McIntyre’s SmackDown status now confirmed, his potential road to WrestleMania starts tonight. Whether he overcomes Knight and Uso to advance in the Chamber remains to be seen, but McIntyre’s arrival adds a major player to the blue brand’s roster.
