Cedric Alexander Announces WWE Departure – Former WWE Cruiserweight Champion Cedric Alexander has confirmed that his time with WWE has come to an end. In a social media post on Friday, the longtime WWE competitor announced his departure and revealed that he will be free to work elsewhere in 90 days, indicating a release or a negotiated buyout rather than a contract expiration.
Alexander shared the following message on X:
“Thank you for the last 8 1/2 years! Being a professional wrestler has been a dream of mine since I could form memories and I will continue to do so till the good Lord says otherwise. #SeeYouIn90”
Cedric Alexander’s WWE Run
Alexander’s journey in WWE began in 2016, when he gained attention during the Cruiserweight Classic tournament. His second-round match against Kota Ibushi led to a memorable moment when the crowd erupted with chants of “Please sign Cedric.” The response was so overwhelming that Triple H emerged from backstage to acknowledge the support and signal WWE’s intent to sign him.
Alexander went on to become a cornerstone of the 205 Live brand, winning the WWE Cruiserweight Championship at WrestleMania 34 in 2017. He later moved to RAW, where he found success as a member of The Hurt Business, aligning with Bobby Lashley, MVP, and Shelton Benjamin. During his time with the faction, he won the RAW Tag Team Championships alongside Benjamin.
Recent WWE Status and Final Match
Over the past few years, Alexander’s role in WWE diminished. By 2023, he was primarily competing in dark matches or serving as enhancement talent on television. In 2024, he was shifted to NXT, where he briefly aligned with Je’Von Evans and was teased for a potential feud or tag team with Ashante Adonis, though it never fully played out on TV.
Alexander’s final match in WWE took place on the January 28, 2025, episode of NXT, where he lost to Ethan Page.
With his 90-day non-compete clause in effect, Alexander is expected to become a free agent in May 2025, leaving the door open for potential opportunities in other promotions.
