Update on John Cena’s WWE TV Absence – John Cena officially kicked off his WWE retirement tour on January 6 during the premiere episode of RAW on Netflix. That night, he announced his entry into the Royal Rumble match and vowed to win, aiming to break the record for the most world title reigns in WWE history.
Since that appearance, Cena has been absent from WWE programming, leading to speculation about his status. According to the latest Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer reported that Cena has been busy filming Matchbox, an action-adventure comedy that has kept him away from WWE television this month.
Directed by Sam Hargrave and written by David Coggeshall and Jonathan Tropper, the movie is based on the Matchbox toy brand. Cena stars alongside Jessica Biel, Sam Richardson, Arturo Castro, Teyonah Parris, and Randeep Hooda.
With the Royal Rumble fast approaching, it remains to be seen whether Cena will make a return to WWE TV before the event or if he will simply show up as a surprise entrant. His goal of winning the Rumble and securing another championship opportunity makes his potential involvement one of the more intriguing storylines heading into the event.
