Cody Rhodes and CM Punk Exchange Heated Words to Close RAW – The January 27 episode of WWE RAW delivered an intense closing segment featuring Undisputed WWE Champion Cody Rhodes and CM Punk. With the Royal Rumble just days away, tensions between the two stars reached new heights.
After Sami Zayn accidentally kicked Cody during a tag match earlier in the night, Rhodes found himself lying in the ring, staring up at the Undisputed WWE Championship and the Winged Eagle Championship, both suspended above the ring in preparation for his ladder match against Kevin Owens at the Royal Rumble. Cody expressed his eagerness to move past his feud with Owens and focus on WrestleMania.
CM Punk then made his way to the ring, offering Cody some unsolicited advice. Punk claimed the pressures of being champion were beginning to wear on Rhodes and likened his journey to those of legends like Bruno Sammartino and John Cena. Punk, having experienced similar pressures, warned Cody about burnout.
The segment escalated as Cody referenced their interaction before last year’s Royal Rumble, asking Punk for another prediction. Punk told Cody that someone would be training harder and preparing to take the title from him at WrestleMania. That someone, Punk revealed, was himself. He promised Cody he wouldn’t stab him in the back like others—he’d do it to his face.
Cody fired back, stating he’d been chasing Punk throughout his career, but now the roles were reversed, with Punk chasing him. Cody even welcomed Punk to win the Rumble, just so he could witness the look on Punk’s face when he realized he was no longer “The Best in the World.”
With Punk competing in the Royal Rumble match and Cody defending his championship in a ladder match, the stage is set for fireworks at the Royal Rumble.
