CM Punk Compares His WWE Future to John Cena’s

CM Punk Compares His WWE Future to John Cena’s – CM Punk’s WWE comeback at Survivor Series 2024 was one of the most shocking moments in recent memory, marking his return to the company after nearly a decade away. Since then, he has been involved in major feuds with Drew McIntyre and Seth Rollins, competed inside Hell in a Cell, and suffered an injury during the Royal Rumble match. Now, Punk is gearing up for another Rumble appearance, but he remains aware of the unpredictable nature of his career.

During an interview with WWE’s Jackie Redmond, Punk addressed his future in wrestling and likened his current path to that of John Cena, who is set to retire at the end of 2025. However, Punk emphasized that he’s taking a different approach to the idea of retirement.

“I feel great right now. I definitely don’t feel like there is a looming doomsday clock over my head or anything like that,” Punk said. “But I also realize, based on what happened in the last Royal Rumble, that this could all end in a heartbeat. I never know when my last match is going to be. You see guys like John Cena doing a full-blown retirement tour—I look at myself like I’m on the same road as John, maybe just not egotistical enough to announce to everybody, ‘Hey, this is it.’”

Punk made it clear that he isn’t setting a firm end date for his career. Instead, he’s focusing on longevity, putting in the work to maintain his health and avoid overstaying his welcome.

“I am just doing my best to bulletproof myself on a daily basis, work as hard on recovery as I do in the gym and in the ring, and not make this twilight of my career extend beyond what people expect of me. I don’t want to twist in the wind and just be some old guy,” Punk explained.

He also addressed criticism about his appearance, particularly his decision not to cover up his graying hair or battle scars from years in the business.

“I think I get criticized an unfair amount, but it’s because I don’t dye my beard. I don’t dye my hair. I 100% embrace it. To me, these grays, I’ve earned them. These just tell stories. It’s the roads I’ve traveled, the bumps and bruises I’ve taken, and the injuries I’ve survived. My face is a roadmap. I would not remove a scar. I wouldn’t dye my hair, dye my beard.”

For now, Punk is focused on what’s ahead, including his Royal Rumble appearance, but his long-term future remains uncertain. Whether he follows Cena’s lead with a formal farewell tour or continues competing as long as he feels capable, Punk seems content with letting time and circumstance dictate his next steps.
