AEW Double or Nothing Avoids Clash with WWE Saturday Night’s Main Event

AEW Double or Nothing Avoids Clash with WWE Saturday Night’s Main Event – The wrestling landscape could have seen more direct competition between AEW and WWE with the release of the upcoming Saturday Night’s Main Event schedule on Peacock. According to the listing, WWE plans to air two SNME specials this year on May 24 and July 12. These dates raised immediate interest due to their proximity to major AEW pay-per-view events.

The May 24 date is just ahead of Memorial Day weekend, traditionally the time when AEW holds its Double or Nothing pay-per-view. Meanwhile, July 12 directly clashes with AEW’s All In, scheduled for Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas—marking the company’s first U.S. PPV inside a baseball stadium. AEW has often avoided scheduling PPVs during NFL season by opting for Saturday nights, but All In will follow their summer Saturday format.

Despite the potential clash in May, Dave Meltzer reports in the latest Wrestling Observer Newsletter that AEW has no plans for Double or Nothing on May 24. Instead, the event is expected to take place the following day. Meltzer noted, “We were able to confirm that AEW was not planning a PPV that day, and was likely planning one the next day. However, historically, Double or Nothing most years was on the Saturday of Memorial Day weekend.”

Additionally, AEW has reportedly tightened its scheduling secrecy following last year’s incident when a publicly announced calendar led WWE to counter-program Worlds End with a house show in Orlando on December 28. WWE’s event took place in the same city on the same night as AEW’s PPV, sparking further tension between the companies. This year, AEW appears to be avoiding another premature reveal, keeping its exact plans more guarded.

With WWE’s Saturday Night’s Main Event set to air alongside AEW’s largest summer event, it remains to be seen how these battles will impact both promotions.
