AEW Collision Kicks Off 2025 with Significant Viewership Drop

AEW Collision Kicks Off 2025 with Significant Viewership Drop – AEW Collision faced a challenging start to 2025, as the January 4 episode drew just 345,000 viewers, marking a significant decline from the 635,000 viewers garnered on December 21. This sharp drop followed a week-long hiatus due to AEW Worlds End airing on December 28. In addition to the overall viewership decrease, the show’s key 18-49 demographic rating fell from 0.20 to 0.09.

The steep decline in numbers can be partially attributed to strong competition from Saturday Night Football, with the Cincinnati Bengals vs. Pittsburgh Steelers game drawing massive audiences. The game recorded 8.161 million viewers and a 2.57 demo rating on ESPN, while ABC’s broadcast added 13.810 million viewers and a 2.58 demo rating. These combined ratings created a formidable obstacle for AEW’s Saturday night programming.

Additionally, this episode of Collision was the first to be simulcast on Max. However, viewership data from the streaming platform was not immediately available, leaving its potential impact on ratings unclear. For context, the December 21 episode, which aired after a College Football Playoff game on TNT, benefited from a significantly larger lead-in audience.

As AEW enters the new year, concerns have resurfaced regarding Collision’s long-term viability. In WrestlingAttitude.Com’s year-end ratings report, parallels were drawn between Collision and Rampage, the latter of which was canceled in 2024 due to sustained poor ratings. The drop in numbers raises questions about whether similar challenges await Collision, or if adjustments in content strategy or scheduling can turn the tide for AEW’s second flagship show. The coming weeks, particularly with Dynamite: Maximum Carnage on January 15, will be key in setting the tone for Collision’s future.
