TNA’s Recent Voting Decision Sparks Legitimacy Controversy – Last month, TNA Wrestling made an ambitious move, giving fans the power to choose the location for a major live event in 2025. The promotion allowed fans to vote between New York City and Los Angeles for the event, with the promise that the decision would be entirely fan-driven. However, recent revelations have sparked questions about the legitimacy of the voting process, leading to skepticism and disappointment among some fans.
According to Dave Meltzer of The Wrestling Observer Newsletter, TNA claimed that over one million votes were cast in the poll—a staggering number for a company that has struggled to draw crowds larger than 3,000 in recent years. Despite the fan-driven poll, TNA later announced dates for events in both cities, raising concerns that the voting might have been more of a promotional stunt rather than a true reflection of fan preference.
TNA’s Rebellion pay-per-view is scheduled for April 27, 2025, at the Galen Center in Los Angeles, which has a capacity of 10,258 but is expected to hold around 7,500 seats for the event. Similarly, Slammiversary will take place on July 20, 2025, at New York’s UBS Arena, with a capacity of 19,000, but it’s expected to accommodate about 13,500 for wrestling. These venues represent ambitious goals for a promotion that has not sold more than 3,000 tickets for recent shows.
Meltzer raised questions about the logistics of securing these venues, noting, “These deals aren’t like snap your fingers. But they are ambitious.” Fans are now left wondering if their votes truly influenced the decision, or if the events were already planned regardless of the poll results.
While the idea of allowing fans to shape the future of the company was well-intentioned and gave the audience a sense of participation, the disconnect between the poll results and the eventual event announcements has led some to feel misled. It remains to be seen whether TNA will address these concerns or if this fan-driven decision will be remembered as more of a marketing gimmick than a true fan initiative.
