Original Plans for New Day’s Heel Turn Revealed – Monday’s episode of WWE RAW delivered a shocking turn of events as Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods turned on Big E, officially marking The New Day’s shift to a heel faction. The segment, which started as a celebration of The New Day’s decade-long success, took an unexpected turn when Woods and Kingston laid into Big E for “abandoning” them.
Woods accused Big E of leaving the group, a sentiment echoed by Kingston, who dismissed Big E’s explanation that his absence was due to recovering from a career-threatening neck injury. The duo claimed Big E had chosen himself over The New Day, with Woods bluntly stating that Big E would never be medically cleared to compete again. They rejected his offer to serve as their manager and told him to leave, cementing their betrayal and solidifying their heel turn.
This storyline twist follows months of speculation and teases that Xavier Woods might betray Kingston. However, the angle involving Big E wasn’t the original plan. According to Dave Meltzer in the latest Wrestling Observer Newsletter, WWE had been building this storyline for months but initially intended for it to include Odyssey Jones.
“When Odyssey Jones came in, they were going to tease issues with them not getting along, but it would end up with Kingston and Woods turning heel by choosing Jones and publicly replacing E. But then Jones got fired, and the whole thing was put on hold,” Meltzer reported. Jones was released earlier this year following domestic violence allegations, leading WWE to rework the storyline.
This new angle has not only added tension to The New Day’s dynamic but also created fresh intrigue around Big E’s future, both in the ring and as a character in WWE. Fans will be watching closely to see how the fallout unfolds in the coming weeks.
