Kota Ibushi Admits Career May End Soon Due to Leg Injuries – Kota Ibushi, one of wrestling’s most dynamic talents, continues to face significant hurdles stemming from injuries sustained over the past few years. Among these setbacks is an ankle injury he suffered at Pro Wrestling NOAH’s New Year 2024 show during a high-profile match against Naomichi Marufuji. The injury, which occurred early in the bout, required surgery and sidelined Ibushi until July 2024. Since his return, he has only participated in a limited number of matches.
After parting ways with New Japan Pro Wrestling in 2023, Ibushi signed with AEW, where he has competed sporadically. His most recent AEW appearance was at WrestleDream in October 2024. However, he has been absent from the promotion since then.
Speaking to Tokyo Sports this week, Ibushi offered candid insights into his current physical state and outlook on his career.
“My legs are at their limit, and it could end at any time,” Ibushi admitted. “I wanted to keep going before I can’t do it anymore. I’m really at the limit, but I want to contribute to the world of professional wrestling before I end my career, so I’m currently appearing in various places.”
Despite these challenges, Ibushi remains committed to making an impact in the wrestling world during the time he has left.
Future in AEW
Ibushi has previously mentioned that he won’t return to AEW until Kenny Omega makes his comeback. With Omega scheduled to return to action on January 5 at AEW x NJPW: Wrestle Dynasty, the possibility of Ibushi’s return to AEW looms on the horizon.
