WWE Removes Carlito’s Controversial ‘I Gotta Learn Chinese’ Line – The October 21 episode of WWE RAW included a controversial line from Carlito that has since been removed from the streaming versions of the show on Peacock and WWE Network. In a backstage segment, Carlito remarked, “I need to learn Chinese,” after RAW General Manager Adam Pearce interacted with IYO SKY and Kairi Sane, both of whom are Japanese. This misstatement sparked backlash due to its inaccuracy and perceived insensitivity.
In the edited version now available on streaming platforms, the segment has been altered to omit the remark. The camera zooms in on Adam Pearce as Carlito’s line is muted, and the interaction continues as originally aired, with Pearce addressing Carlito’s concerns.
As noted, the line was reportedly unscripted, leaving some staff in disbelief that Carlito said it. Sapp also noted that multiple sources within WWE were unhappy about the incident, though there is no confirmation of any backstage heat on Carlito or others involved in the segment.
Carlito’s WWE appearances have continued since the incident. He competed on the November 11 episode of RAW, teaming with Dominik Mysterio in a losing effort against the War Raiders (Erik and Ivar). Additionally, Carlito participated in a dark match, signaling that WWE has not sidelined him following the controversy.
The swift editing of the segment suggests WWE’s attempt to address the issue while minimizing further backlash. However, the incident has raised questions about oversight and cultural sensitivity in scripted and unscripted moments on WWE programming.
