Ricky Starks Pulled from Future GCW Events – Ricky Starks’ ongoing contract situation with AEW has taken another twist, as recent developments have led to his removal from future GameChanger Wrestling (GCW) appearances. While AEW extended Starks’ contract through 2025 last spring, his absence from AEW television and involvement in independent promotions have kept fans speculating about his status.
Over the weekend, Starks appeared at a GCW event, addressing his situation and expressing frustration with being “held down.” However, his ties to GCW seem to have caused friction with AEW leadership. According to a report from Fightful Select, AEW’s decision to pull Starks from GCW events is linked to recent comments made by GCW talent Effy on a podcast. Effy alleged that Shad Khan, AEW President Tony Khan’s father, had influenced GCW’s inability to book the Hammerstein Ballroom. These remarks reportedly upset AEW officials, leading to a decision to distance themselves from GCW entirely.
The fallout became official earlier today, the same day Starks’ interview with Chris Van Vliet was released. While AEW reportedly does not want to pay Starks for GCW appearances, he remains free to work with other independent promotions. However, GCW has confirmed that Starks has been pulled from all upcoming bookings, including matches scheduled for December 14 in Los Angeles, December 28 in Seattle, and January 19 at the Hammerstein Ballroom.
In a statement, GCW wrote, “We have just been informed that Ricky Starks has been pulled from all upcoming GCW appearances, including his announced match on 12/14 in Los Angeles, his unannounced match on 12/28 in Seattle, and his unannounced match on 1/19 at The Hammerstein Ballroom.”
While some within AEW reportedly speculated that Starks’ GCW involvement might have been part of a storyline or work, sources close to the situation have denied this, emphasizing that the decision stems from internal concerns. Starks’ next steps, both in AEW and on the independent circuit, remain unclear.
