AEW Facing Issues with Grand Slam: Australia – AEW’s upcoming Grand Slam: Australia event, originally set to take place on February 15, 2025, at Suncorp Stadium in Brisbane, may see a venue change due to low ticket sales. Suncorp Stadium, with a listed capacity of 52,000 for football events, appears to be too large for the current demand.
According to a report from Fightful Select, AEW is considering relocating the event to a smaller venue. However, finding an alternative location has presented challenges. On Wrestling Observer Radio, Bryan Alvarez explained that AEW initially eyed the Brisbane Entertainment Centre, which can accommodate up to 11,000 attendees. Unfortunately, scheduling conflicts with concerts by Bryan Adams and Billie Eilish make it difficult to fit the wrestling event within the venue’s timeline.
Alvarez added that AEW is now exploring smaller options, with the Pat Rafter Arena and the Nissan Arena emerging as the most likely candidates. Both venues have capacities of approximately 5,000, providing a more appropriate setting for the anticipated attendance.
“I was told that the issue now is that, because they’ve waited this long, it’s like the decent-sized venues. I guess they’ve got the Brisbane Entertainment Center has an 11,000-seat capacity, but they’ve got a Bryan Adams and a Billy Eilish concert, and the AEW show would have to be right in the middle of those two. And they don’t think there’s enough time to get it in there, so most likely, it would be in the Pat Rafter Arena or the Nissan Arena, both of which seat about 5,000. So that appears to be the most likely.”
An official announcement about the venue change is expected soon as AEW works to finalize plans for its Australian debut.
