Tony Khan Denies Warner Bros Discovery Equity Stake in AEW – During a media call ahead of AEW WrestleDream, Tony Khan addressed the ongoing speculation surrounding Warner Bros. Discovery’s potential equity stake in AEW. This topic came to light following AEW’s announcement on October 2, 2024, regarding a multi-year media rights deal, which includes simulcasting their content on Max. Reports from Sports Business Journal suggested that as part of this deal, Warner Bros. Discovery retained an equity stake in AEW. However, Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful clarified that neither AEW nor Warner Bros. Discovery had officially confirmed this claim.
When Sapp asked Khan directly about the matter during the media call, Khan offered a measured response. He acknowledged the legitimacy of the question but emphasized his position as the primary decision-maker in AEW. Khan explained that, from the beginning of AEW’s existence, he has held 100% of the voting stock and continues to hold the vast majority of the shares.
“It’s a fair question. I will not get into our ownership structure, beyond saying I have 100% of the voting stock in this company and have since the beginning and hold the vast majority of shares. I think that’s fair to say. As the sole voting owner and the vast majority shareholder of the company, I think that speaks volumes, and I’m the controlling owner with 100% voting control of the business.”
Khan’s statement reinforced his authority over the company, underscoring that he remains the controlling owner, with full voting control. While he did not explicitly deny or confirm the equity stake rumor, his remarks highlighted that his leadership remains unchanged and firmly in place.
