Rhea Ripley Dealing with Legitimate Injury – On Wednesday night, WWE revealed that Rhea Ripley had sustained a fractured right orbital socket following a storyline attack on NXT. Ripley had appeared on the show to deliver a speech aimed at inspiring some of the women’s division stars. However, before the main event, Women’s World Champions Liv Morgan and Raquel Rodriguez were shown backstage, assaulting Ripley with baseball bats in a dramatic scene.
As the camera followed the aftermath, viewers saw Ripley lying next to her car, her head cut and covered in fake blood. The level of blood in the segment reportedly raised some concerns within NXT, with Fightful reporting that its use was only greenlit by a “higher power” in the brand, which could include Shawn Michaels, Triple H, Lee Fitting, or even a CW executive.
PWInsider added that there’s a real injury behind this storyline. The reported belief is that Ripley sustained her fractured orbital bone during a headbutt spot on WWE RAW the previous week. Dave Meltzer also confirmed on Wrestling Observer Radio that the injury is legitimate and likely occurred during her last TV segment with Raquel Rodriguez, as Ripley has not appeared at live events since. Meltzer noted that this injury explains why Ripley has been pulled from Sunday’s RAW tapings, with WWE using this attack angle as a way to write her off TV temporarily.
Meltzer said, “She’s got a fractured orbital bone. So, the injury that they announced is pretty much legit. Yeah, it happened last week. I’m not sure, probably the last TV thing, because she hasn’t worked any house shows. So probably in the last TV angle that she did with Raquel, you know, was where it happened most likely. And she is going to be out for a while, and I guess that’s, I don’t know, 100% that’s why she’s not on the pay-per-view, because I did hear that match for the pay-per-view. It happened last week, and then they did this thing as a cover because, you know, to basically have a reason for her to be out of action.”
Ripley’s absence is expected to be significant, and her recovery timeline is still uncertain, though this injury could keep her out of action for several weeks.
