NJPW and AEW Eye Agreements to Prevent Talent Jumps to WWE – Many in the wrestling world, especially outside of WWE, were not surprised to see Stephanie Vaquer eventually join the company. Rumors circulated within the Mexican wrestling community that Vaquer was not planning to return to the independent market and made her exit accordingly.
According to Fightful Select, AEW took notice of her strong performance in her rivalry with Mercedes Mone. However, it became evident shortly after Forbidden Door that WWE had reached out to her, and it was only a matter of time before she would sign with them. What caught many off guard, however, was how quickly the deal between Vaquer and WWE came together.
AEW insiders acknowledged WWE’s interest in similar talent but were perplexed by WWE pulling Vaquer from her scheduled CMLL appearances before she had the chance to drop the championship she held in that promotion. When Vaquer made a swift turnaround by working WWE’s Mexico shows before officially joining WWE NXT, this move eased some of the criticism compared to her being removed from CMLL events without closure.
Since her arrival, WWE is reportedly very pleased with Vaquer’s performance, and she herself is said to be enjoying her time with the company. Meanwhile, sources from NJPW and AEW suggest there may be future agreements in place to prevent talent from jumping directly to WWE during co-promoted events, aiming to avoid similar situations in the future.
