WWE Bringing Back Saturday Night’s Main Event – The iconic series “Saturday Night’s Main Event” originally aired from 1985 to 1991 on NBC, replacing Saturday Night Live on select weekends. In 1992, WWE moved the special to FOX before it eventually went off the air. The show was revived briefly in 2006, returning to NBCU in primetime as part of the Raw brand on the USA Network, running until August 2008. In recent years, WWE used the name for a few select house shows.
According to a report from WrestleVotes, WWE is preparing to announce its first NBC primetime special since August 2008, with rumors suggesting a Saturday night broadcast in December. Internally, there has been speculation about whether the special will carry the Saturday Night’s Main Event name.
“WWE is set to announce a live primetime special on @NBC in the next few days. While the location remains unknown, sources say tickets are set to go on sale next Friday. We’ve heard some internal speculation about a Saturday night in December. This will be WWE’s first primetime NBC special since August 2, 2008.”
“A source was able to confirm the to-be-announced primetime special on @NBC will indeed be presented as ‘Saturday Night’s Main Event.’ The return of a classic!”
Dave Meltzer confirmed the news in the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, stating, “WWE told us that the return of Saturday Night’s Main Event will be announced very soon, so that would indicate this is accurate.”
While the exact air date remains uncertain, fans can expect an official announcement soon.
