The Lucha Bros' Reportedly Decline New AEW Contract

The Lucha Bros’ Reportedly Decline New AEW Contract – A new report has provided an update on The Lucha Bros’ status in AEW, as speculation continues regarding their potential move to WWE despite conflicting reports.

Both Rey Fenix and Penta El Zero Miedo were originally reported to have contracts expiring in 2024, sparking interest from WWE. Penta even claimed to have been in contact with WWE, stating that he and Fenix were a package deal and wanted to join WWE’s main roster together.

On Fightful Select, Sean Ross Sapp shared an update on the situation, reporting that AEW became aware of the duo’s WWE discussions. The company reportedly offered The Lucha Bros a contract in an attempt to re-sign them, even placing the trios titles on them to demonstrate their importance to the roster. However, the report indicates that they did not agree to AEW’s offer at the time.

Sapp also mentioned that sources within AEW denied any formal communication from The Lucha Bros regarding plans to leave the company. According to the latest Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer reported that AEW added a few months to Penta’s contract, and a significant extension was applied to Fenix’s deal. This lines up with Sapp’s report, which also noted that WWE sources confirmed Fenix would not be imminently joining their roster.

For Penta, when the extra time was added to his contract, he tweeted that his “present” was in AEW, hinting at some internal conflict over the situation. Penta reportedly hoped Fenix wouldn’t have extra injury time added to his deal, as that could delay any potential moves. As it stands, there’s no definitive word on whether AEW plans to continue featuring The Lucha Bros heavily in the future, though sources confirmed that they remain under contract and are being paid.

AEW’s decision to extend their contracts reflects the company’s desire to ensure they get the full contracted time out of The Lucha Bros. Meanwhile, WWE has not officially commented on any rumors or reports surrounding the duo’s potential signing, leaving the door open for further developments.
