Jey Uso and Rikishi Become Second Father-Son Duo to Hold Intercontinental Title – Jey Uso made history on the September 23 episode of WWE RAW by defeating Bron Breakker to capture the Intercontinental Championship. This victory marks his first singles title in WWE, elevating him into a new category of champions.
By winning the prestigious title, Jey and his father, WWE Hall of Famer Rikishi, have become only the second father-son duo in WWE history to hold the Intercontinental Championship. The first duo to achieve this was “Mr. Perfect” Curt Hennig and his son, Curtis Axel.
Rikishi’s reign as Intercontinental Champion came in June 2000, though it was brief, lasting just 13 days before he lost the title to Val Venis. Despite the short reign, it remains Rikishi’s only singles title win during his WWE career.
Similarly, Mr. Perfect’s legacy as one of the greatest Intercontinental Champions saw him hold the title twice, from April 1990 to August 1991, amassing an impressive 404-day reign over both title reigns. His son, Curtis Axel, followed in his footsteps, winning the title at WWE Payback in June 2013 by defeating Wade Barrett and The Miz in a triple threat match. Axel’s reign lasted 155 days before losing the belt to Big E.
Jey Uso’s victory not only cements his place in WWE history but also strengthens his legacy alongside his father, Rikishi, as part of the elite father-son champions in the company.
