This brutal contest was fueled by the escalating feud, which took a shocking turn when Page set fire to Strickland’s childhood home on the September 4 episode of AEW Dynamite.
Strickland entered the match with the upper hand, having defeated Page twice before—at AEW WrestleDream 2023 and AEW Full Gear 2023—and they even fought to a time-limit draw earlier in the year. But before the cage could even lower, Strickland set the tone by charging at Page, kicking him out of the ring, and starting a brawl right away.
The battle quickly became vicious, with weapons like a staple gun being introduced early. Page used the staple gun on Strickland, who retaliated by stapling pictures to Page’s chest and face. The two men also made extensive use of the steel cage, grinding each other into the mesh and causing both to bleed within minutes of the match’s start. Chairs, tables, and even cinderblocks were added to the mix as the violence escalated.

Page, however, was determined to go to new extremes to get his revenge. In a shocking turn, he ripped Strickland’s grill from his mouth and then injected Strickland’s cheek with a needle. The match ended in truly brutal fashion as Page broke a chair over Strickland’s head, causing the referee to stop the match and declare Page the winner via knockout.
