Moxley began by saying things hadn’t changed between them, but Darby quickly cut him off, telling a story about how his heroes had let him down, showing him that their dignity could be bought. He reflected on meeting Moxley, who, unlike his former heroes, remained unchanged. That was when Darby decided he wanted to be just like him.
However, Darby revealed that Moxley’s actions toward Bryan Danielson at All Out changed everything. He mentioned that he could never betray Sting like that and no longer wanted to emulate Moxley. Moxley then demanded that Darby hand over his earned title shot, bluntly stating that Darby wasn’t ready for such an opportunity. Darby refused, accusing Moxley of sounding like all the heroes from his past who sought handouts. He even taunted Moxley with a reference to the backstage brawl between CM Punk and Jack Perry, asking if Moxley had been drinking again and daring him to “do something about it.”
Moxley, unfazed, accepted the challenge. He told Darby he’d earn the title shot by beating him at AEW Grand Slam, promising to prove his superiority. Moxley warned Darby that he had no idea about everything happening behind the scenes. In response, Darby accepted the match, warning Moxley that if his goal was to burn AEW down, he shouldn’t be surprised when Darby pulls him into the fire alongside him.
The segment set the stage for a highly anticipated showdown at Grand Slam, with both competitors determined to prove their dominance.
