Cash Wheeler Reveals He Considered Retirement After Arrest

Cash Wheeler Reveals He Considered Retirement After Arrest – Cash Wheeler, real name Daniel Wheeler, was facing one count of aggravated assault with a firearm after being arrested in 2023.

It was alleged Wheeler flashed a gun during a road rage incident, as this was not a domestic issue, and they did not know the people involved. All Wheeler’s firearms had to be turned over to the local sheriff’s department until the case was over. Throughout the process, AEW continued to book him.

The case was dropped in May. While speaking to Renee Paquette on Close Up, Wheeler discussed it. He called it a very rough patch for the entire process and noted that his life depended on what would happen in the case. He refused to plead guilty to any charge because he felt he wasn’t guilty.

Wheeler said that he had faced up to five years in prison should he be found guilty and wasn’t willing to take a plea. He knew that if he did that, AEW would get rid of him, and he could never leave the country again. He didn’t know about the warrant until a week after the fact and was never contacted before.

His longtime tag team partner, Dax Harwood, recalled Wheeler considering retirement over it.

He said, “From my perspective, he told me when everything happened. I guess a week after he told me what happened, he said, ‘we have two separate contracts. ‘He said, ‘I think I’m going to retire because I don’t want to subject you to any of this stuff that I’m going through.’ He knew the backlash on Twitter because it’s a cesspool. ‘I’m just going to retire. You don’t have to worry because your contract is with you. I’m going to leave wrestling.’ I had to talk him into not retiring.”

Wheeler added, “For me, I didn’t love it. At the same time, it was the only chance I had to escape from that. I literally didn’t know which match would be the last one. Every time we were going out there, ‘Alright, let’s go out there.’”

Wheeler said he knew he didn’t do anything wrong, so he wasn’t too stressed about it. “The ones that believe me, they believed me the whole time. It was something that I was willing to do. It’s an hour-long process. It’s the same ten questions, they ask in a different order, and they ask four times. I was willing to go through it. I did everything I could on my end to make sure the people who did believe in me.”
