Bully Ray Weighs In on WWE’s Direction for CM Punk-Drew McIntyre Feud – The intense rivalry between CM Punk and Drew McIntyre has escalated after their brutal Strap Match at Bash in Berlin. Not only was Punk left battered and stretchered out of the arena during WWE Raw, but McIntyre also destroyed Punk’s cherished bracelet, which bore the names of his wife and dog. The score between them now stands at one win apiece, with speculation growing about their upcoming clash at WWE Bad Blood next month. Many anticipate the two will settle their feud in another high-stakes stipulation match (spoiler here).
WWE Hall of Famer Bully Ray weighed in on the storyline during Busted Open Radio, stating that a Hell in a Cell match between Punk and McIntyre at Bad Blood is a “no-brainer.” Ray pointed out that the event will mark the 27th anniversary of the very first Hell in a Cell match, making the stipulation fitting. However, he acknowledged that some fans are unsure if this direction is the best move for the feud.
“I think at this point, Hell in a Cell does it more for me than the other suggestions that are out there that I saw on social media,” he said. “One of the choices that I did see was a First Blood match which would kind of make sense, also. We did see Punk bleed … Bad Blood, First Blood, I’m not a fan of First Blood matches because I believe the finish is very anti-climatic. You could get a trickle of blood and the match is over because you’ve drawn first blood. Somebody’s nose could start bleeding and you’ve drawn first blood.”
Bully said he wants a “crimson mask” if blood is involved, not just someone accidentally cutting themselves on the ring steps. He also said he wants Punk and McIntyre to “stick to the rules” of the cell.
The former Dudley also mentioned what was a point of contention in the feud between McIntyre and Punk: the beaded friendship bracelet with the names “AJ Lee” and “Larry” given to the “Straight Edge Superstar” by a fan. Bully said he loved the integration of the bracelet into the feud, and explained that WWE is “programming its audience” to be interactive, and the more interactive fans are, the more emotion they are going to give.
“One of the things that I love about the bracelet being created by a fan is that you have now put it out there that any fan could possibly start a major angle, a major story, a major dispute, a major conflict within the WWE,” he said. “It’s genius stuff … Who’s going to be the next fan to create something for a wrestler that’s going to create some kind of controversy?”
