Backstage News on JBL's WWE Status After TNA Appearance

Backstage News on JBL’s WWE Status After TNA Appearance – As noted, JBL made a surprising appearance at TNA Emergence 2024 in Louisville, Kentucky, following the 60-Minute Iron Man match where Nic Nemeth defeated Josh Alexander 3-2 to capture the TNA World Championship. JBL entered the ring during Nemeth’s post-match celebration, leaving the crowd and commentators Tom Hannifan and Matthew Rehwoldt stunned. Without saying a word, JBL leaned in and whispered something to Nemeth, smiled, and exited the ring, leaving fans intrigued as the show went off the air.

JBL’s recent appearances in AAA, GCW, and TNA have sparked speculation that he might be coming out of retirement. Layfield recently posted a photo of himself in the gym, showing that he’s in the best physical shape he’s been in years. At 57 years old, a full-time return to the ring seems unlikely, but a one-off match is possible, especially now with wrestlers over 50 being featured in high-profile matches in recent years.

According to PWInsider, Layfield is under a WWE Legends deal, allowing WWE to book him for appearances while also giving him the freedom to work for other promotions, as long as he doesn’t use the JBL gimmick owned by WWE. This is why he’s been referred to as John Layfield in non-WWE appearances, and he’s not dressed exactly as the JBL character during these appearances.

WWE sources reportedly have no issue with Layfield’s appearances outside the company. As for a potential in-ring return, there’s no confirmation yet, but given his recent physical transformation, fans are eagerly speculating about what could be next for the wrestling legend.
