Hulk Hogan Becomes a Villain

In the 1980s, Hulk Hogan was the ultimate hero in the ring and in real life. He encouraged his young fans to “eat their vitamins and say their prayers,” making him and the WWE millions yearly. When Hogan joined WCW in the early 90s, his popularity faded. WCW took a bold step to change things up. He ran with the Reform Party and defeated Republican Norm Coleman and Democrat Skip Humphrey. Though many wrestlers had joked about running for office, no one expected something like this. Other wrestlers have explored politics too, like Hulk Hogan’s presidential talk, Kane becoming mayor of Knox County, and The Rock’s future plans, but none have achieved what Ventura did. As governor, Ventura also made light of Virginia’s request for its 28th battle flag and supported gay rights, which was well-received.

During the intense Monday Night Wars, WCW and WWE tried their hardest to outdo each other. WCW even began revealing WWE Raw results before the show aired on TV.

To take things up a notch, WWE’s popular group DX decided to invade a WCW event. They rolled in with a tank and a microphone to hurl insults at their rivals. They headed straight for the arena entrance, but the gates were shut just before the tank could enter. DX, led by the WWE legend Triple H made a memorable impact before leaving.
