Nigel McGuinness Credits Michael Cole for Shaping His Commentary Style – AEW’s Nigel McGuinness recently sat down with Justin Barrasso of Sports Illustrated. When asked about his history as a commentator in Ring of Honor and WWE before joining AEW, McGuinness said he learned a lot working under Michael Cole in WWE, which helped him develop the style he utilizes now.

“I learned a lot working under Michael Cole,” Nigel McGuinness said. “I developed my style and added to it in AEW, where we have much more free rein, I can really be myself, and to work with Tony Schiavone, who is an institution, is a blessing.”

Despite commentating at some of the biggest events in AEW’s history, McGuiness admits he’s not nervous at all when he’s talking on the headset…even in Wembley Stadium.

“I’m not nervous at all when I do it,” Nigel McGuinness said. “All In last year at Wembley Stadium, in front of more than 80,000 fans, I felt very comfortable.”

Nigel’s ongoing disdain for Bryan Danielson on commentary has been a talking point from fans in recent years. McGuiness would explain why he feels his shots at Danielson resonate with fans.

“It’s a tale as old as time–the villain and the babyface, who were neck and neck, but one career went one direction, the other went another,” Nigel McGuinness said. “That resonates with people. Who knows, maybe someday, if he’s ever brave enough, I might get a chance to shut his mouth.”
