MJF Retains AEW American Title at CMLL Show – On the 8/2 edition of CMLL’s show “Viernes Espectacular”, Maxwell Jacob Friedman made his first title defense of the AEW American Championship against the current CMLL World Middleweight Champion Templario. The match was not only his first title defense, but it was also MJF’s debut match for CMLL.
For his debut match, MJF was accompanied by Rocky Romero while Templario was accompanied by KeMalito. After a heated match between the two competitors, the finish came when MJF hit the Panama Sunrise before connecting a Sheer-Drop Brainbuster on Templario for the win. MJF attacked Templario and KeMalito with his belt after the match.
With this win, MJF will defend his title against Will Ospreay on 8/25 edition of AEW All In. Before that match though, MJF will face Kyle Fletcher on the 8/7 edition of AEW Dynamite.

- Julio Cesar Rivera, Miguel Linares & Miguel Linares Jr welcomed the audience before transitioning into the opening match.
- Xelhua & Hunter def. Infarto & Retro via Pifnall (Diving Meteora from Hunter on Infarto).
- 2/3 Falls Match: Dulces AtrapaSueños (Rey Cometa, Espíritu Negro & Rey Cometa) def. Los ndestructibles (Disturbio, Cholo & Apocalipsis) (2-1).
- 2/3 Falls Match: Hechicero & Los Depredadores (Magnus & Rugido) vs. Soberano Jr & Los Infernales (Averno & Euforia) (2-0).
- Soberano Jr & Los Infernales (Averno & Euforia) attached Hechicero while he was on a stretcher. An army of referees separated them.
- PAC & Rocky Romero cut a promo from Arena Mexico’s Ravens Nest, where PAC promised to bring the heat against Volador Jr & Mascara Dorada while Romero promised to show they were the best International Team. Volador Jr & Mascara Dorada responded, saying that Dorada promised to show PAC the Mexican wrestling style before Volador Jr promised to prove why they were better than them.
- CMLL National Light Heavyweight Championship Match: Esfinge (c) def. El Valiente via Pinfall (Springboard Frog Splash).
- El Valiente viciously attacked Esfinge after the match, promising to take Esfinge’s mask off on the 91st Anniversary show.
- Templario cut a promo backstage, where he promised to defeat MJF tonight. AEW American Champion MJF interrupted, said he did not care what he & his fans thought, and said he would teach Templario tonight the lesson of him not standing a chance against MJF.
- 2/3 Falls Match: Volador Jr & Mascara Dorada def. PAC & Rocky Romero (2-1).
- AEW American/ International Championship Match: MJF (c) (w/ Rocky Romero) def. Templario (w/ KeMalito) via Pinfall (Sheer Drop Brainbuster).
